The Martian Starbase was designed to be the first permanent human settlement on Mars. It is a sprawling complex of buildings, facilities and infrastructure that can support up to 10,000 people. Starbase is self-sufficient, with its own power generation, water recycling and food production capabilities. It also has an extensive research laboratory where scientists can study the Martian environment and search for signs of life. Tonight, Starbase is battening down the hatches as a huge dust storm approaches from the west. The wind howls around the buildings, sending walls of red sand cascading through the air. Inside, everyone has been preparing for this storm all day long; sealing off any openings that could let in debris or sand; setting up emergency generators in case of power failure; making sure there are plenty of supplies like food and water stored away safely. As night falls and the storm rages outside, those inside hunker down safe and sound knowing that they have everything they need to weather this latest challenge on Mars.
